Few minutes outside Bologna, in Casalecchio, there is a point where the river Reno leaves its natural mountain path to enter the plain through the Reno Canal. And it does so thanks to a medieval gate which is among the oldest hydraulic engineering works in the world.
The first evidence of the construction of the Chiusa is already around the 1.000, and in the following decades has been often renovated. The inhabitants of the area use it in the summer as a place for relaxation, fishing or some cooling bath. To visit it today means admiring a work of human engineering.
