Scenic pond and park on city outskirts

Jamaica Pond

Why locals love it

Jamaica Pond and Park are part of a large, stunning neighborhood just on Boston's edges. Bostonians enjoy the parkway as a scenic means to jog, walk their dogs, stroll, fish, and the like. It used to be the site of a winter skating carnival in the 1920s and 30s. It is the largest body of freshwater in Boston, at about 70 acres.

Why you should visit it

Though skating is no longer permitted on the pond, its history in ice is rich. The Jamaica Pond Ice Company used to harvest thousands of tons of ice a day from the pond. In more modern times, this is one of the more refreshing bodies of water to explore for all kinds of daytime adventurers. Especially those who like to bike or explore nature.

Special tip

They are famous (rightfully) for The Lantern Parade, which takes place each Halloween.
