Started in the late 70s by two MIT grads, Newbury Comics was originally, strictly, a comic book vendor, but quickly began shifting to a music/vinyl store. In the 80s, they even published a music tabloid called Boston Rock. Nowadays, Newbury Comics has a lot of gift and fashion products, as well as lightly used DVDs, LPs, CDs, and the like.
You might recognize the Newbury Comics logo from its appearance in the movie Hatchet (after which, the store printed shirts with the Hatchet blood stains on it). Though the products have changed over the years, Newbury Comics has maintained its punk/new wave/indie vibe through and through. There are eclectic and kitsch objects for all.
They have some of the best magnets and calendars around--great for stocking stuffers and gift-giving in general.
