Seemingly out of place in the rowdy collegiate context of university hill hides Cafe Aion, occupying a charming renovated building complete with a homey fireplace. The head chef and owner is nearly as young as many of neighborhood's student residents, but his understated yet immensely flavorful worldly bistro dishes are expertly prepared.
The menu adapts seasonally and draws on exotic Morrocan and Catalan influences as well as more familiar continental tastes, all complemented by an equally gobal wine selection. A restrained casual atmosphere belies the fine caliber of the food. Small plates and sharing platters prompt conversation and allow for sampling a variety of items.
Check out the Wednesday night paella for two, when variations of the pungent saffron rice are offered along with a bottle of wine for only $49.
