Touted as "one of the top 3 Shakespeare festivals in the country", the Colorado Shakespeare Festival is put on by a professional acting company established in 1958 with the help of student interns and community volunteers. The worldly troupe of actors, directors, designers and artisans draws over 25,000 people every summer.
In addition to the obvious Shakespeare works, other classic and contemporary plays are staged in an indoor university theater and the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theater. Apart from the remarkable talent of the artists invloved, Boulder's nearly always comfortable climate makes seeing an open air production here especially enjoyable.
Shows can sell out, so purchasing tickets ahead of time online is advised. The festival runs from June through August.
