Home to Zeiss, one of the world's most advanced star-gazing machines, the Fiske Planetarium on the Univeristy of Colorado campus wows space-geeks, pyschadelics and average folks alike with 360 degrees of surround sound and video.
Why you should visit it
State of the art projectors, totally revamped in 2013, display information-enriched skies as clear as any you could hope to find in the Rocky Mountains as well as diverse films, video art installations and or course mind-melting lazer shows set to the likes of Pink Floyd, Daft Punk and Michael Jackson.
Special tip
If a planetarium sounds offputtingly nerdy, try one of the eye-candy lazer shows. You may find yourself tempted to come back and learn something.
