Why locals love it
Boulder is renowned as a haven for 'granola' (modern-day bourgeoise hippy) culture, and thus has no shortage of vegetarian restaurants. However, when Tiffins opened a few years ago as a vegetarian-only fast-casual southern Indian joint, it broke the tofu-and-salad mold, giving veg-heads a much heartier, exotic and piquantly spiced alternative.
Why you should visit it
Originally specializing exculsively in southern Indian street food such as vadas and idlis, Tiffins has expanded its menu over time to include more familiar curries and biryanis, some of which even incorporate meat or poultry, though the snack items still feature prominently. Run by an Indian family, all dishes are authentic and satisfying.
Special tip
The lunch special, available between 12:00 and 3:00 pm, is truly a steal. Choose between 1 and 3 dishes, plus rice, for from only $6 - $9.
