Description
Explore a vast concrete housing estate, the Soviet monument Slavín, post-industrial developments, the Iron Curtain border zone and loads of communist-era architecture. The tour brings alive the fascinating story of Bratislava in the turbulent 20th century.
What can you expect? Cool drive and quirky stops to see and understand:
- the first prefabricated apartment block in Slovakia as well as the largest socialist housing project, Petržalka
- communist-era architecture (inverted pyramid of Slovak Radio, rocket-shape TV tower Kamzík, Freedom Square)
- political objects: Soviet memorial Slavín, diplomatic 1970’s hotel, 1980’s parliament, villas of former communist leaders
- controversial ufo-like SNP bridge, causing destruction of the Jewish district
- former Iron Curtain area, border between communist Czechoslovakia and Austria
Please note that in some cases (winter conditions, car repairs etc.) we can not guarantee a classic Škoda car. In this case we go with our green 1992 VW 8-seater or other newer vehicle.

Having said that, this tour was amazing and I'd recommend it to everyone! Our guide Peter knew a lot about the city, gave the tour a personal touch with his stories and (for this kind of tour not unimportant) drove us safely around town, in spite of the weather conditions.
I specifically like how Peter is interested in ruins and abandoned buildings (I am too) and knows where to find them. They are getting fewer, sadly.
I can only imagine how much cooler it would be with warm weather and in the retro cars. Seems I've to take the tour again some time ;)
If you get the chance, take the tour. Period.
When you are in Bratislava, call these boys!!!
