Why locals love it

This magnificent building originally existed as the Central Post Office. It's a landmark from the era when Bucharest was referred to as “Little Paris”. These days it’s home to a vast collection of items from prehistoric to modern times, including a replica of Trajan’s Column.

Why you should visit it

The highlight of this place is in fact underground. Golden artefacts from prehistoric times, crown jewels and many other items are on display in the treasury. It’s usually not very crowded, so, at least for a moment or two, you’ll feel like Aladdin in the Cave of Wonders.

Special tip

Look out for the temporary exhibitions – sometimes they’re even more interesting than the permanent one.

It's just great to see pure gold jewelry made by the Dacian civilisation three centuries ago. Not to mention the Roman heritage, a perfect copy of the Column of Trajan in real size.
