And if you want a really, really cheap thing - in every Mega Image Supermarket chain, and you`ll find`em all over the city, you can buy a SuperSandwich, they`ll make it on the spot, with ingredients of your own choice, for ~1 pound, more or less. I buy it every morning with a bottle of Sana or Kefir ~ 1/2 pint (sort of sour milk, but not so sour :) ) and is absobloodly fantastic! Welcome in Romania and have a nice trip!

Hi Teresa,

You can also find cheap, but tasty food at Thalia restaurant. It has 2 locations, one in Victoriei Square, and the other one in Tineretului - http://www.restaurantthalia.ro/contact.html

And one of my favorites, more modern: AltShift and Shift. The menu is the same for both locations (University Square and Romana Square), big portions and very tasty food. You can easily find something around 7-10 euro. You can check the menu here: http://www.altshift.ro/menu/

You can also try the fries from Energiea, the portion is big enough for 3 people (500gr) and it costs only 4 euro - https://www.instagram.com/p/BSrHhiIh93Y/?taken-at=314121265

And if you are near Energiea, just around the corner is Paine si Vin, a very cool place with conceptual pizzas. They don't take reservations so make sure to be there around 5PM when they open.

Enjoy!

Dear Teresa
I have visited London for four days a year ago and please belive me, by comparison here in Bucharest everything is cheaper, better and more tasty. Good food, traditional dishes are available almost in all bistros... But I have few interesting hints for you; Clubul Taranului Roman ( @Victoria Square), La Placinte ( a pastry and moldavian traditional dishes chain of restaurants - @Romana Square), La Mama - chain, Carul cu Bere (@Old City Center). Also you can find many pizza shops, and fast food restaurants... Also we have street food such as pastry, pretzels, kebab. The best local beers are Ursus, Timisoreana, Ciuc and the best spirit "Palinca". You may taste also "afinata" or "visinata", alchoolic beverages from fruits like berries, cherries and so on. Have a nice trip!

Dear Teresa,
There are many excellent options in Bucharest.
My advice id go to TripAdvisor and search there.
It has the menus, customer comments and locations of most of the restaurants.

Dear Teresa, depends on what you mean with "cheap". If you want a main meal - you should get something in most restaurants for about 5 - 6 Euro ( below 30 Ron). As an expat, one of my favorite places is Burebista (close to International Hotel) and also Old Town - there you have tons of options, and since the weather is starting to become better - it will be very vibrant and alive.

If you want to eat really cheap - the pastries in the shops are 1 - 3 Ron (less than a Euro) and you can find them everywhere for a snack.

Fabrica de Mancare near Piata Unirii, it's self serving and they have nice food, really cheap too.
Springtime, altough a fastfood chain, has really low prices.
Check out foodpanda . Its a website that makes deliveries from many restaurants.
Avoid Old Centre as the restaurants tend to be more expensive.
