Hi, I'm visiting Bucharest in December and am wondering where to stay, I don't mind being slightly out of the centre - outside of the tourist traps... any ideas? Also I love markets ... especially rough and tumble ones - for food, clothes, antiques - anything - any ideas for good markets to visit would also be great! thanks x

Hello Sophia.
I reccomend you Victoriei Square area.
Even if parks and museums are in this area, tourists usually prefer the old town area.
From Victoriei Square you can easily use the public transportation becouse it's part of the city center.

well, personally I love the area between street calea victoriei and street berzei (delimited north and south by blv. Dacia and blvd. queen Elisabeth (regina Elizabeta)
It is full with clubs, pubs, theater, places with different kind of music, live music clubs, music shops. Park Cismigiu is very lovely and... it is close to old city center by walking distance. It can however become crowded if taking a cab or an uber, although I would recommend walking. In the same area you can find local patisseries, coffee places, breakfast in the heart of Bucharest and local market (piata Amzei). I think it is the best place to stay as a tourist but not very touristy.

Hello Sophia and everyone interested I would warmly recommend you Tineretului. Its close to the center it has a huge park and lovely market with good prices. Also nice area close by is Parcul Carol. Its an old neighbourhood with aristocratic houses and you can have lovely walks in the park !

Hi Sofia

A nice area to stay would be Dorobanti. It is full of nice Cafes and cool restaurants. If you stay there you could easily find taxis or Uber to go anywhere. Another nice area to stay, full of Villas is Cotroceni. Is more quiet though. You could also look into Calea Mosilor; it's very close to the center and plenty of shops.

As for markets I recommend you the traditional food market from 61 Marasti Bd, district 1. There you find traditional food from the local farms.

There will be other markets in that period, but there are not really announced too long in advance.

I hope I could give you some ideas.

Otherwise let me know the exact period when you're traveling and I'll find somebody to give you some guidance when you are there.

Are you booking a hotel or you're interested to look for a studio? I might be able to give you some tips as well.

Have a great day!
