Description
For more than 40 years Romania was under communist rule, so it’s no surprise that Bucharest is full of ‘souvenirs’ from its socialist past.
This 2.5-hour walking tour will give you insights about the way communism has shaped Romania. You’ll find out what life was like for the people of Bucharest up until 1989.
You’ll hear how education, religion, mass media and even people’s private lives were affected by communism – as well as the way it shaped town planning and the city’s architecture.
The tour starts with a short introduction on the origins of communism in the country. We then head to the Palace of the Parliament, built at the peak of Ceausescu's power, and finish the walking tour in Revolution Square – where a new era of democracy began.
Your guide will share lots of personal experiences and stories about life under communism. You’ll also get to hear some of the jokes that made people feel a bit better during those difficult times.
