El Avila national park (Waraira Repano) is the name of the long chain of mountains extended all along the coasts of Venezuela. These mountains are close to the city and surround the northern side of Caracas. The park is very attractive for hiking and climbing as the irregular terrain can challenge even the most experienced hiker.
There are all kinds of hiking trails and depending on what you choose, it is possible to find (and take a bath in) very beautiful waterfalls! Panoramic views of the city are guaranteed! Among the locals the most common track is aiming to get to the forest ranger station called Sabas Nieves (height 1,300m).
It is absolutely recommended to get a map of the routes before engaging on the tracks. Go in a group if possible!
