My wife and I booked a taste of Crete tour. Gabi (the tour guide) immediately made us feel at ease and we were chatting like old friends within minutes. She showed us some fantastic places and explained the history behind the old town. The locals all knew her well and treated us with great affection. Gabi also showed us restaurants that locals go to and which ones she has personally eaten in and recommends. The time flew by and before long we were at the end of the tour. I would thoroughly recommend Gabi and her tour to all my family and friends if they were coming to Chania.

Highlights

the Market, Splantzia, the Old Venetian Port, the Arsenal,

Venetian architecture, Cretan landmarks, perfect photographic spots, churches, minarets, the oldest Synagogue in Greece

Local tastes, Mezes, Raki, Local Coffee, Breakfast

Description

Walk with me as we discover the highlights of the city, its history, and its traditions.

We start with breakfast in one of the most traditional pastry shops in town to taste a unique local delicacy. Right after, we enter the Municipal Market to discover and sample some of the best Cretan staple food (honey, cheese, olive oil, tsipouro, and carob) You will get to know about the local cuisine, our herbs, and spices, and talk with locals.

Our tour will take us to visit the leather district, the Christian and Turkish quarters, the Venetian and Jewish areas, while seeing churches, minarets, and other landmarks of the city.

We stop for a traditional Greek coffee in the old port and then keep walking to visit the New Marina and the arsenals. Hidden gems such as the archaeological findings in town, the road of the knives and other hidden spots that Instagramers love!

The day ends with raki and meze in the traditional district of Splantzia. Here we give additional information about the city, the island and what activities can be done during the stay, as well as additional useful information.
