Suggestions for wife's romantic birthday dinner
(11 answers)We will be in Chicago the first week in October for my wife's birthday. We are staying in River North neighborhood. Can you suggest a romantic birthday restaurant?
Current candidates are : GT Fish and Oyster, Le Colonial, or Bavette's

Depends on how lucky you want to get. The blow out is Spiaggia. Overlooks Lake Michigan, great Italian food, your mortgage costs less. Other really good choices are Margeaux Brasserie in the Waldorf, or Locanda on Walton just east of the Drake. That’s where I take my wife. After 48 years I don’t need Spiaggia anymore but it always worked great in the past!
Never having a romantic dinner in Chicago before, if I ever got the chance, I'd like to go to Alinea. Chicagoans will tell you it's cliche and overpriced, but it's the best restaurant in the city, bar none. Get in fast, however. It may be booked already.
I suggest going to the West Loop and investigating places like Maude’s Liquor Bar, RM Champagne Salon or Gilt Bar. I think these are better options than GT Fish or Le Colonial. Bavettes is good if she likes steak but I suggest Gilt Bar over it - it’s right down the street.
You should go to the West Loop! I would suggest Maude’s Liquor Bar (seafood), Gilt Bar or RM Champagne Salon. All have a pretty nice romantic atmosphere and lots of options for dining. I’d recommend these over GT Fish/Le Colonial but Bavettes is good if she likes steak.
