You’ll meet your guide in the morning and head to the fortress city of Alba Iulia in the heart of Transylvania. Its Roman influences will take you centuries back in time. Over the years it was also influenced by the Germans and the Hungarians, transforming it into a place of high cultural diversity.
Different architectural styles will delight your eyes: baroque and Romanesque churches, Roman citadels and even a Babylonian building. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the 18th-century Alba Carolina fortress. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy lunch in medieval surrounds.
Next on your journey is the Transylvanian Turda Salt Mine. The 100-meter galleries open into a huge room carved out of salt, which reaches 90 meters high. Today, inside the mine you will find a theme park equipped with bowling alleys, ping pong tables, mini golf courses, a Ferris wheel, and an underground lake on which you can enjoy a boat ride.
If you’re seeking spectacular scenes to capture with your camera, Turda is the place to visit. A glass elevator provides an astonishing view of the mine. The temperature is constant at 10–12 degrees Celsius all year long, and the salty air has proven therapeutic properties.
