The Botanical Gardens are just far enough out of the way to keep the calm and serene and are more beautiful for it. The gardens are active and in full bloom for most of summer but the interesting layout and small ponds keep it gorgeous all year round.
Why you should visit it
The gardens are free and close to some of the best areas in the North of the city, an area worth exploring. Grab a coffee, cake or ice cream at the little cafe attached to the main building (that looks more like a palace) in one of the most photogenic spots in Cologne.
