The Last Baroque Church in Cologne

St. Mariä Himmelfahrt

Why locals love it

Not well known among many locals even, this church's interior is one of the most beautiful in the city. Reconstructed almost completely after the war, the Baroque stylings, including the massive three-story alter, are worth a quick stop.

Why you should visit it

If exterior architecture is your thing, you might not even notice this church as you walk past. It is on the inside where the church is the most beautiful (just like all of us). As many of the churches are protestant in the city, the interiors are rarely impressive. This church is the exception.

Special tip

All masses here are in Italian and the church is only fully open during this time so be prepared to only access a small section of the church.
