Independence Square was built to commemorate the independence from the British rule in 1948. It has been a popular family park for decades, and recently the area around it has been opened up with jogging and cycling tracks, along with beautiful lit-up water features. It has a lovely relaxed vibe.
See the traditional architecture of the building, meet/observe locals, enjoy the gardens. It is open till very late in the night. The adjoining Independence Arcade is a good place to shop (for branded clothing) and eat.
Read the inscriptions on the statues and elsewhere, they'll give you a glimpse of the history.
