Why locals love it

The Cisterns (in English) is an unusual place with a great concept. It's actually a glass museum but hardly spotting at the grassy lawns of Søndermarken. That's because it's hidden away underground, in three huge water cisterns originally built for Copenhagen water supplies in 1856-59 as part of the modern water supply system.

Why you should visit it

This is a different experience and worth a visit. You will walk aroud the Cisterns (old water resoire) in the darkness. Mirrors and lights from a lanterns will guide the way, but your eyes have to get used to the dark a few minutes. Please also pay attention of the opening hours from season to season.

Special tip

You can ask for a lantern when you pay for the entrance to make it more dramatic underground.

Very interesting. Just attended the current temporary exhibit on climate change, where the space was flooded. (Rainboots were provided to all visitors.) A lovely meditative and immersive (literally!) exhibit.
