Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen is unusual as all of its exhibitions are produced, initiated or chosen by artists, with a focus on collective shows by experimental groups or networks. It was built in 1898 as an arena for independent artists.
Today Den Frie is considered as a very special architectural landmark in Copenhagen, and its architecture alone is worth a visit. Each year they host multiple exhibitions with contemporary art of international quality.
Close to Nyboder, the orange facades area, where are also highly recommended.
