Why locals love it

Commissioned by Carlsberg brewing magnate Carl Jacobsen in 1888, this beautiful and imposing building next door to Tivoli houses Northern Europe’s largest collection of ancient Mediterranean art as well as a fine collection of French Impressionist paintings.

Why you should visit it

The centre of the building opens up to reveal a glass-roofed, sub-tropical winter garden filled with statues, palm trees, a fountain and a tea room. Don't miss the eerie ancient Egyptian section in the basement, replete with mummies and wood-carved coffins.

Free on Tuesdays.

Fantastic Winter garden and a nice cafe. In summer the rooftop terresse is open for views over Copenhagen.

The largest collection of antique art and Frnech impressionists in Northern Europe. Created by the son of Carlsberg's founder to host his huge art collection, it's a lovely place for any art lover.

A fabulous cultural get-a-away in the heart of Copenhagen. During the summer, take a picnic-basket with you and go for the Danish hygge in the little garden of Glyptotek.
