Rocky Mountain oysters a bit too exotic for your tastes? Not to worry, Denver offers an entire spectrum of culinary options. Highlights include idigenous Navajo frybread tacos with shredded bison meat; spicy smothered Mexican chili rellenos, enchiladas and burritos; grass-fed beef from historic ranches or wild game nourished by the state's many pristine wilderness areas; and contemporary farm-to-table vegetarian creations.
A great way to sample the city's respectable selection of haute cuisine, without breaking the bank, is to take advantage of the Denver Restaurant Week if you happen to be in town at the end of February or August. Over 100 establishments participate by offering a prix-fixe menu for $30 per person which often includes an appetizer, main dish, dessert and occassionally one drink. As mentioned the promotion occurs twice per year and happily lasts a bit longer than one week- 11 days, to be precise. Menus can be reviewed ahead of time online, and many of the best places book up well in advance so it's wise to make a reservation as early as foresight allows.
