Why locals love it

A green lung in the northen coastal suburbs this large park represents what is left of the former Guinness Family estate. The grand house was destroyed by fire in the early 1940's and parts of the estate were developed for housing but what remains is the original core of the estate. The park now houses many playing fields and sports facilities.

Why you should visit it

The park is a treasure trove of discoveries. There are several follies, ornamental ponds, a walled rose gardens and the Tudor red stables which house a cafe and on Saturdays a farmers market. There is a children's playground, a model car racing track and an arboretum. A rose festival is held on the third weekend of every July.

Special tip

There is a 'Family Express' train running at the weekends in the park
