Why locals love it
The Canny Man's is not a usual Scottish booze stop. With its crazy decor, bizarre collection of stuffed animals and other eccentric items, this place is either love or hate. Most locals vote for love and they are regular visitors of this Morningside institution. Great ales, whiskies and some vintage port too.
Why you should visit it
It's a truly historic pub, open since 1871. Try not to lose your confidence reading the sign outside the pub: 'no smoking. no credit cards. no mobile phones. no cameras. no backpackers'. Indeed there is strict door selection, but if you get in (as I did), you can expect a truly unique experience. Dress smart casual.
Special tip
The place specialises in open sandwiches called smorrebrod.
