The mighty Rivers Tornio – Muonionjoki - in the local language Väylä (Riverway) - is the longest free-flowing river in Europe. The clear water journey of the riverway starts from the Yläperä mountain streams and ends more than 500 kilometers at the bottom of the Bay of Bothnia.
Along the Riverway, there is room for roaring stumps, roaring rapids and calm gravel-based nests to spawn salmon. The upper reaches of the passage cut through vast wilderness and the lower reaches the old cultural landscape of the river valley.
The riverway also serves as a landmark between Finland and Sweden, but it does not separate people, connects them in cultural heritage area Jokilaakso
