Salmijärvi Wilderness Farm is a self-sufficient secluded farm established far from other settlements. Farm is typical of the Fell Lapland region, whose courtyard has 18 buildings from different eras gives a good picture of the way the area was built and the living conditions in a sparsely populated area.
Why you should visit it
The Fell Lapland region in Muonio was a hunting and fishing area for Sámi people for centuries. The solid Finnish peasant settlement was established at the beginning of the 17th century into this area. During the II World War, also Muonio was largely destroyed by the German troops.
Far from other settlements, the Salmijärvi's Wilderness Farm is one of those saved in the war.
