The village is located as a strip landscape along the River Muonionjoki and the road along its banks. The majority of the village is on the southern slope of Utkuvaara, but the village continues south of Lake Utkujärvi to Nulusniemi. The old road runs along the southern edge of the village, where the old building base is located.

The main building of Kotakorva is from the 1850s and the other two houses from the 1930s. A small dirt road turns from Torniontie (E8), which leads to the P-place. The road is about 1.5 miles long and bouncy, but at least now it was more or less in driving condition. The route is well marked. The trees have both orange and red paint marks. From time to time there were also wooden benches along the route.

Akamella Cemetery in Sweden

Before Akamella, the deceased were transported to Matarenki. Sámi and new builders were buried in Akamella. After the end of the Finnish War (1808–1809), a new frontier of the kingdom was formed. Akamella and his deceased remained on the Swedish side. After Muonio became its own parish in 1812, a cemetery was established next to the church.
