Why locals love it
The village of Yli-Muonio is the northernmost agricultural village in the Tornio Valley and the northernmost in all of Lapland. The yard circles of the strip-like roadside village in the open landscape of the River Muonionjoki have exceptionally been largely spared the damage of the Lapland War.
Why you should visit it
The village is located as a strip landscape along the River Muonionjoki and the road along its banks. The majority of the village is on the southern slope of Utkuvaara, but the village continues south of Lake Utkujärvi to Nulusniemi. The old road runs along the southern edge of the village, where the old building base is located.
