At the end of the Finnish Civil War, the German division landed in Hanko on April 3, 1918 and advanced with a strength of 9,000 men towards Helsinki, which was held by the Reds. Surrender was negotiated at Alberga station, but the Red leadership did not agree and the Germans continued the attack on April 11, 1918 at 4 pm. The Reds withdrew to Orolanmäki. Now the Germans set out to besiege the front line through Ruukinranta and Haraka, when the red forces that suffered losses dispersed in the direction of Helsinki.
