The museum is a part of the state university of Florence. Founded in 1869 by the physician and anthropologist Paolo Mantegazza, this museum, one of the few in Europe, is situated in the rooms of Palazzo Nonfinito begun in 1593 on the project of Bernardo Buontalenti. Big collection of the original culture objects.

Why you should visit it

Different objects from the cultures that not exsist anymore. Asian, African and others. Clothing, weapons, boats and cult objects. Shows you not only a history of this culture but also an antropology history. What was the "primitive" for the society of 19th ans 20th century. Now even the installations in this museum are a part of the history.

Special tip

The huge sculpture in the entrance to the exibition of a "primitive" human. How anthropologists of that time had described the "primitives".
