Why locals love it
In the Summer everyone likes to hang out at the Graslei/Korenlei. Buy some drinks and snacks at the supermarket and you're all set to relax there. (But make sure to clean up your trash when you're gone, that way it's pleasant for everyone.)
Special tip
There is a hostel near called The Uppelink. They do free walking tours and they're great to get some history and facts about Ghent.
