We will spend 5 days in Hanoi with our 1.8 and 3.8yo sons and are looking for nice playgrounds, activities to do with children and child-friendly places to eat in Hanoi.

During the weekend, around Hoan Kiem lake, traffic is closed so that people can walk freely. And there are many electronic child cars for rent.
Lotte Tower has viewing deck. There is also zoo but very small and animals look a bit sad. How about Botanical Garden or Unification Park. These parks are big and no bikes. There are small play ground for children.

Playgrounds for children almost in buildings as parents do not have to care about weather. You can choose in Vincom, Lotte or Aeon mall
We do have parks in Hanoi such as: Thong Nhat Park, Thu Le Zoo ... but I do not recommend as old infrastructure.
Destinations to visit: Ethnology Museum, Historical Museum, Bat Trang pottery village, Walking street (only on Friday, Saturday & Sunday), Water Puppet show might be exciting for kids (I'm not sure about your 1.8 yo as I'm not sure about my child, they are unpredictable).
For 5 days, you can travel to Halong or some where near by Hanoi such as Duong Lam village, Ninh Binh with Trang An etc...

Restaurants are almost child-friendly except some luxury ones.

Enjoy your trips in Hanoi :)
