One of the best things about Helsinki is that there are relatively few places that are "just for tourists". When the sun is out, nationality, age and everything else aside, you’ll find the entire cross-section of the local population out to enjoy it in public spaces such as this.
Come to listen to the street musicians and performers and people-watch tourists and locals alike from one of the esplanade’s classic old cafes or restaurants. The stage towards the harbour end of the esplanade frequently showcases local talent, from chamber orchestras to salsa dancers - just follow the crowds.
In the winter you’ll find the trees dramatically encased in fairy lights. You can also enjoy the Christmas markets here at that time of year.
