The Haltiala's primeval forest area is a protected forest, it was protected from logging in the 1930s. In 1984, the forest area received a protection decision. The forest has developed into an atmospheric area of the old forest with a diverse flora and fauna. The protected area can be accessed from three different points, each with a signboard.
Numerous dwarfs, other fungi and insects live on fallen and dead tree trunks. Rotten trees and their insects attract cavity nesters, such as woodpeckers and wood climbers. The birds of the forest are rich in species, and even there are nesting birds, such as the little catch. Mammals, like foxes, squirrels and hares thrive on the area.
In order to maintain the peace of the old forest, only marked trails are allowed in the area.
