Why locals love it
In 1550, a gallow was built on a hill in the south of the city center of Helsinki, even though the time ate all the horror props the name stuck. Nowadays Gallow's Hill is considered as a large open air art piece that consists of 82 small-sized birds cast in aluminum bronze, which are attached to the rock cutting of the Hirsipuunkallio.
Why you should visit it
Historically remarkable place Gallow's Hill served as tragic stage in 1599, when Charles IX over throne Sigismund III, the gallow's were in active use a the new King slayed Sigismund III's nobility. In total nine people, who were Sigimud's minions, were put in the end of the rope. The group included for instance landlords, clerks and officers.
Birds are about the same size, about 10-12 cm, but are recognizable as distinct species. In addition, everyone has an acronym of their Latin names.
