St. John's Church is the gorgeous example of the end of the New Gothic period in Finland. Its highest parts are the two 74-meter-high towers, which make it city's recognizable landmark. The interiors of the church are very ornate with stained glass, arched windows, overlays and chandeliers.
The church was built between 1888-1891, it was designed by a Swedish architect Adolf Emil Melander, who also designed the church benches, pulpit, altar and dew table. The altarpiece was painted by Eero Järnefelt in 1932.
