Why locals love it
Degerö's Primary School was established on the Herttoniemi Manor's former hill in 1883. The land, where the school was build and initial capital of 10,000 Finnish Marks were donated by the Bergbom brothers who owned the Manor.
Why you should visit it
As a progressive minds the brothers wished that the school was ultered for both boys and girls, and the language should be both Finnish and Swedish. The first manager of the newly build school was Anna Knienoff. The value of the building heritage is further enhanced by the consistent original use, now in the Laajasalo Swedish-speaking school.
The current school building was completed in 1898. It is rated as the Helsinki's best old school buildings and protected indoors.
