ONE must-do thing in Helsinki

By Waikin Traveller March 21, 2017

I am heading back to Helsinki this morning after 3 lovely (and freezing) days up in Lapland....beautiful! I only have 1.5 days in the city and have already booked a 4 hour walking tour, so that leaves very little time. Can someone recommend ONE thing that I must absolutely do with my friends before leaving Helsinki?

I have already walked the Design District, been to the Hakanieni market and visited Porvoo last week.

www.weirdantiques.fi. Also go to our website www.thehelsinkibook.com and if you need a REALLY good lunch, come over to Qulma in Kruununhaka (www.qulma.fi)

In summer time i would recommend Suomenlinna, which is a historical island near to Helsinki, or Kaivopuiston ranta, which is the southern part of Helsinki and right next to the sea.. This time a year Helsinki is quite quiet place and even my favorite coffee place is closed in the downtown :( i quess u have tried sauna and swam in an icy lake already in Lapland? If not, go and try the public sauna in Kuusijärvi, if it is easily reachable by public transport. They have a famous finnish smoke sauna there and the freezing dip to the water in the winter time is a finnish must do! :) definitely worth of trying if you want to see something traditional finnish!

If you are just walking around the nice Helsinki area, you can visit cafe esplanad! If you want to taste finnish chocolate, you can also go to fazer cafe, fazer is a finnish brand for chocolate.

If you don't want to go to the sauna or just don't have time enough to do that, you can always enjoy the wonderful architecture, the surroundings, the ambience, dine, or allow yourself just a couple of cocktails.:)
This place is worth a visit.

You could get the ferry to Suomenlinna, a small island fortress with great panoramic views of Helsinki & the Baltic.
It takes around 15 minutes from Market Sq.
Nice architecture. Some ruins. A couple of bars/restaurants.
