It's my husbands birthday so I would like a really nice restaurant with great service close to the Marina hotel if possible and one sightseeing trip for the day time - something on a boat would be ideal. Any suggestions please ?

Hey,

Everything is close by in helsinki :) in the same area as your hotel are a few restaurants, the holiday & shelter helsinki. They should be good but quite casual. If you are intrested in something a bit fancyer, check out restaurant olo or finnjävel, they are quite close to your hotel and finedining. All of these have webpages with menus and prices.

For the boat trip i would take a public ferry over to suomenlinna island. The ferry goes from the market square and tickets are available st the dock(about 2€). Suomenlinna is a cute and intresting island where you can walk around. The ferry takes 20mins. Other boats also leave from the market square, they operate different cruises around helsinki. Chek jt-lines webpage 😌

Hope this helps you :)

Close to your hotel would be a restaurant called Sipuli (translates into onion, http://www.ravintolasipuli.fi/en ). Sipuli is close to Uspenski Cathedral and my guess is that's where it got its name as well. You see, the cathedral towers are of course shape of an onion.

For the day time bout trip I'd suggest to check out Suomenlinna ( http://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/ ). It's an old fortress island and UNESCO world heritage site. Ferry trip to Suomennlinna takes about 20 minutes and the ferries leave close to your hotel from Kauppatori (Market Square).
