There are four sand bonds on the border of Helsinki and Vantaa. Out of this quatrets one is still Helsinki's side and lies in Jakomäki and Vaarala areas. The caves have been dug out by Lohja Rudus Oy, in which have filled up with bottom water. Region is also known by names such as Rutikka, Rutski and Rudus.
The sandpits form a rare natural environment in Helsinki, where water birds such as Rantasipi, the swan and the endangered blackcurrant swan love to visit. Also in the summer, the Eptesicus nilssonii, Northern Bat prey on the ponds. Sandpits are also used at summers by people for a quick swim on a hot summer day.
