The Museum is a nationwide specialty museum dedicated to promoting and nurturing Finnish Photography Art. The museum is maintained by the Foundation of the Finnish Museum of Photography. The main sponsors of the museum are the Ministry of Education and the City of Helsinki. Established in 1969, on the initiative of photography organizations.

The museum's guides are experts in photography and visual culture who are happy to design the content and nature of the guides to meet the wishes of the groups. Guided tours must be booked and are charged. Museum organizes photography courses, workshops and Photofuss for youngsters. Reservations for the workshops must be one week advance.
Free Finnish public guide every last Wednesday, 18 -19. Free admission to the museum 17-20. On Sundays Finnish public guided tour at 13 - 14.
