The Vartiokylä Ancient Castle, which was built on a typical castle hill dates back to Medieval. The Ancient Castle served as a shelter when needed but was not permanently inhabited. Latest add to the castle hill was the concrete reinforced trenches from the First World War Period.
Why you should visit it
According to the folklore, Vartiokylä's ancient castle was built by one of the three Viking brothers named Helsing. Another called Sibb built the castle in Sipoo and the third named Borg in Porvoo. According this tale is about how these cities got their names Helsinki, Porvoo and Sipoo.
