It is 23 metres (10 storeys) tall, Tian Tan Buddha on Ngong Ping Plateau, Lantau Island, 500m above sea level, is the world’s tallest seated bronze Buddha statue. Buddhists will go there to worship their religion. And locals will go there for a relaxing weekend.

Big Buddha is so big you can see it on the plane flying into Hong Kong. Hikers negotiating the slopes of Lantau are often caught off guard by Big Buddha looming suddenly into view like an idea in a stark blue sky, or shrouded in fog like an afterthought.
A nice way to reach the plateau is by the 5.7km Ngong Ping 360, a cable car linking Ngong Ping with Tung Chung downhill.
