Erttetvàrrin Reindeer Fence was built in the first half of the 19th century. Unlike many other fences, a fence is a stone-stacked fence. The fence has been used to mark reindeer, as well some tell that in worst mosquito years reindeer were gathered into fence and mosquitoes were evicted by smoking campfires. The fence has been used until 1940´s.
Erttetvàrri is contemporary in the middle of nowhere. There are no grooves or paths. The easiest route to the fence is through the Utsjoki hiking trail, which is worth walking to the desert hut of Lake Kuoppilasjärvi. Then there is about 8 kilometers of pathless wilderness to the south-west.
