Sallivaara is located in the Lemmenjoki National Park, which is Finland's largest remaining undisturbed forest wilderness. The National Park is part of the Sámi region, where part of the indigenous population continues to earn their living from reindeer herding and other livelihoods.
There is a wilderness hut and a camping area. The distinctive fence with its roommates is one of Lapland's most valuable cultural and historical sites. Returning to the roadside, following the same path, the total distance is 12 km. The Sallivaara's Reindeer Separation Site is a restored building that exudes the atmosphere of a bygone era.
