Why locals love it

Spanning the Golden Horn, Istanbul’s iconic Galata Bridge is a top spot for fishing. Locals, especially men, like to come here to fish for fun and sometimes to earn money.

Why you should visit it

If you fancy fishing with locals, you can buy a rod and bait from vendors on the bridge. Fishing enthusiasts come here very early in the morning, so follow their lead and arrive early to get a good spot. The bridge also offers nice views of the Old City.

The bridge has an interesting history itself, along with being a frequently used figure in Turkish literature (famous Turkish poets like Cemal Süreyya has several poems in which he reffers to the Galata Bridge). Also, it connects the two historical coast of the Golden Horn, which makes it a sight to see.
