Why locals love it
Eastern Lapland offers a wide variety of waterways for paddlers, and many of them have been made international-level rapids classifications and canoeing maps. The canoeing rivers in the area are mostly easy and are also suitable for those with less canoeing experience. More demanding rapids can only be found in the Naruskajoki river in Salla.
Why you should visit it
Mapped canoeing routes can be found throughout the area, but they are most abundant in the Savukoski and Salla areas. More detailed information can be found on the municipality-specific pages in the sidebar, and printable canoe maps and route descriptions are also available there.
