Luusuansaari was populated place in the 18th century. From here, the current population gradually expanded to the mainland. The village museum building was built in 1781 and is one of the oldest buildings in Kemijärvi region. The current museum building was inhabited until 1947.
The Luusua Museum Committee renovated the building in the 1970s. The museum lists about 400 different old objects, the oldest of which are over 200 years old. The museum is open by arrangement.
