Why locals love it

Soviet partisans deliberately killed 147 civilians in the villages on Finland's eastern border during the Continuation War in 1941-44. Partisan troops never attacked a village with a military unit, all villages attacked were defenseless. Some of the actions of the partisans have been defined as murders and crimes against human rights.

Why you should visit it

The monument to the destruction of Lake Seitajärvi was designed by Professor Ensio Seppänen. It was unveiled in 1979, in memory of the villagers who fell victim to the Soviet remote patrol in 1944. To the place of killing the 11 inhabitants in Seitajärvi, about 4 km from the village, another monument was placed in 1990.
